Giving Back – When Communities Come Together, Good Things Happen

Giving Back – When Communities Come Together, Good Things Happen

Last week was very exciting here at Reeves Construction aka Reeves Roofing! As the idea of ‘giving back‘ has always been a part of our company culture here, we like to be a business where the community can approach us when there is a need. So was it late last week when we were approached by Derek Janney of the Central Florida non-profit organization World Hope, and asked if we had any connections in the roofing industry who may be able with some in-kind donations for the Central Florida Children’s Home and their pressing need for a new roofing system.

We decided to get involved and give back, even if it was in Central Florida. Because these days, we’re all neighbors. It’s not just about my community but with technology and the advancement in communication, it’s now about those across town, or in another country, or even across oceans. We feel called to give back no matter what community is in need.

Roofing Made it All Happen

Reeves Roof and Gutters & Atlas Roofing

Last week, Thursday to be specific, we decided to call one of our preferred Roofing Materials / Roof Shingles manufactures, Atlas Roofing, to see whether they may be interested in helping facilitate a donation of shingles to the children’s home. After an excited phone call with Stephanie Daniels from the Atlas Corporation about World Hope and the Central Florida Children’s Home, she gave us an enthusiastic possibility that the Atlas corporation would be able to donate (at least) a portion of what was needed to complete the project. Absolute GIVING BACK  as well as Pay It Forward in action!
Central Florida Children’s Home was founded in 1973 by Eastland Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Clyde F. Green. The organization operates under its own Charter and Board of Directors, and is solely supported by its donors and volunteers— and they do not receive State or Federal funding.

Their mission is to care for children whose parents either cannot or will not provide for them due to certain circumstances in the child’s life, and/or difficulties in the parents’ lives.

As a faith-based community, they provide a Christian atmosphere and a real ‘home’ atmosphere by assigning children a “mom and dad”. This creates a secure environment where the children can experience unconditional love and nurturing. An emphasis is placed on academic achievement to insure that the children are well prepared for higher academic studies or vocational training for the job market. Our children are assigned chores and responsibilities to help develop character and discipline, skills that they can carry with them throughout their lives.

The Central Florida Children’s Home works with churches and counselors to rehabilitate the homes, and the community is served by children who grow to become productive and responsible citizens.

Giving Back to Your Community

Not only did the Atlas Corporation decide to donate ALL the roofing shingles needed to complete the project, they decided to give the home their top-of-the-line ScotchGard algae-resistant shingles AND donate the cost to ship and deliver the shingles to the job site! And all of this happened in less than 24 hours. We were truly baffled at how quickly all of the pieces came together. So quick that we cannot take any credit at all — it was indeed the providential hand of God in each person, conversation, situation and board room. It was and is a truly remarkable feeling to know you are involved in something so much bigger than ourselves or our company.
When we asked Atlas why they quickly acted in generosity, this is what Stephanie Daniels from company said,
“As for the reason behind the generosity……..Dustin (the Hampton plant manager) and I work together on these types of projects. I couldn’t do it without his help and support. He and I are both very conscious of our responsibility to our employees and our communities. Being responsible for our employees means we do all in our power to run a good business and make sure that they have a job and a paycheck to take care of their families. Being responsible to our community means whenever we can help and it doesn’t endanger the first responsibility………we are all in. We were fortunate enough in this case to have some product at our Orlando distributors that was perfect for your project. We do not always get to be this generous, but it makes our day when we can be. And we both have a definite soft spot for work that helps children. I think that it is as simple as this………if you can give back………you should.”
We couldn’t think of any better way to put it. Thank you Atlas Roofing for Giving Back above and beyond!  You’ve made the world a better place.
